The cruise with the FS Heincke started in Cuxhaven, Germany. The main goal of this cruise was the monitoring of algies and especially fish larvies in the North Sea. The cruise has been organised by the BAH (Biologische Anstalt Helgoland) and took altogether 14 days. The positions of the sampling stations where located on the BAH-grid, the distances between the stations where nearly 20 Sm.
On every station a CTD with water sampler bottles has been deployed and a multi-plankton net has been pulled behind the ship in different water depths in order to get plankton samples from these depths.
After deployment the probes has been filtered and the plankton probes
have been stored in formaldehyde for later analyses. The number of
fish larvies has been counted and thereafter the fish larvies have been deep frozen.

Heincke cruise 1992 | Due to problems with the multi-plankton net, we stopped on the island Helgoland to fix the problem there.
Heincke cruise 1992 | The deployment of the multi-plankton net was very difficult, especially during strong wind conditions. When the wind has been stronger than 4 Bf at least 3 persons are necessary to ensure a save deployment. We used the net up to 7 Bf but even so we lost some of the nets due to the bad weather.

Heincke cruise 1992 | We passed a lot of offshore oil and gas platforms during this cruise.
Heincke cruise 1992 | During this cruise we also caught fish with a small fishing net. The preparations to get the net back on board can be seen on this picture.
